Nick Di Nella came to Australia as an Italian immigrant aged 13 & by 15 Nick had left school to go to work.
Nick was a hard working young man who started out with Freighters where he did his apprenticeship as a vehicle body builder. Nick’s ethic of hard work and his passion for vehicle body building over those early years paid dividends and by age 20 he had completed his apprenticeship and worked his way up to the position of foreman at Freighters in Osborne Park, which at that time was one of the largest vehicle body builders operating in Western Australia.
By the early 1970s’s Nick had a wife and young family to provide for. One of Nick’s colleagues at Freighters saw an opportunity to build a new vehicle body building business to further service the growing needs of the transport industry in Perth, and along with the 3 other original partners Nick was a founding member of Park Motor Body Builders in 1975 which was originally located in Osborne Park.
Nick’s passion for motor body building, his hard work, strong association with other local companies and his reputation within the local transport industry saw the newly formed Park Body Builders become a viable business venture even in those very early days. The business flourished and quickly outgrew its original premises in Osborne Park. While it was a lot of hard work in those early days (and still is today) the industry and the demands of the business were a little too tough for two of the original partners whose shares in PBB Nick bought out. Nick and one other original partner remained in the business and set about finding a new premises and in the early 1980’s Park Body Builders was moved from Osborne Park to Bayswater. Nick’s hard work, dedication and long hours continued to pay dividends and again Park Body Builders had outgrown its premises and by the mid 1980’s Nick was again looking for a larger premises.
Nick bought the new premises at 17 Jackson Street Bassendean in the mid 1980’s and began to have an up-scaled and updated Park Body Builders facility built on a much larger block of land there. The debt and stress associated with the building of the new premises at 17 Jackson Street was too much for Nick’s only remaining business partner and as his vision was strong and he was so committed to Park Body Builders; Nick became the single owner of PBB in the mid 80’s. Upon moving from Bayswater to Jackson Street Nick had grown his staff from the original 4 to 10 members and hired a salesman and a foreman to assist in the overseeing. Nick continued the growth of the business and went on to continue growing the business and his staff. His eldest son David was soon on board, following in his father’s footsteps & embarked on his vehicle body building apprenticeship at Park Body Builders. When Nick’s second son Daniel left school he too came on board & learned the administrative side of the business from his father. When Nick retired in 2008 David and Daniel took over the company from their father and continue to run it today. Their staff is now 70 strong and they are widely accepted within the industry as the best body builders around. PBB currently operates out of 7 Jackson Street in Bassendean on 24,000 square metres of land where they have become your one stop shop for all your truck and trailer needs.
